The advent of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' EHR Incentive Program, otherwise known as Meaningful Use, calls on clinicians and healthcare organizations to not only have information available at their fingertips, but to ensure necessary steps are in place to allow health information to be used in meaningful ways.

These steps include ongoing efforts to:

  • Improve the quality of care provided through data analysis and process improvement
  • Reduce unnecessary testing, procedures and hospitalizations
  • Expand the flow of communication to members of your healthcare team, those inside and outside of the walls of your primary care provider's office including specialists, behavioral health and oral health clinicians, pharmacists and hospitals.
  • Improve the overall patient experience

The underlying goal of CMS' Meaningful Use program is to establish a healthcare environment where your health information seamlessly follows you throughout your healthcare journey, and where timely information sharing results in the very best care for all.

Maine Primary Care Association provides technical assistance and training to support health centers as they work to implement the practical steps needed to advance through the various stages of Meaningful Use, and to meaningfully integrate information technology with patient care.
