Role Overview

As a Dental Hygienist at Harrington Family Health Center, you will play a critical role in enhancing our patients’ overall health and well-being through comprehensive dental care and education. Working within a collaborative, supportive team, you will provide preventive and therapeutic oral health services while helping patients understand how to maintain good oral hygiene at home.

You will be empowered to take an active role in patient care, including dental prophylaxis, scaling, fluoride treatments, sealant application, and making appropriate referrals. You will also be allowed to provide personalized care that best supports each patient’s needs.

This position offers a unique chance to work with a diverse patient population, providing much-needed services to those in rural communities.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care
Deliver high-quality of care by performing dental hygiene procedures including prophylaxis, scaling, fluoride applications, and sealant placement.
Educate patients on oral health practices and preventative care.
Collaborate with on-site Dentists, other dental hygienists, and healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive, patient-focused care.
Refer patients to external specialists when necessary, maintaining a continuum of care.

Professional Collaboration
Work closely with the health center’s dental and medical teams to ensure holistic care for each patient.
Participate in interdisciplinary education and supervision to enhance team knowledge and collaboration.
Attend dental team meetings and contribute to updates on procedures and compliance with department protocols.
Stay current through continuing education opportunities, ensuring, the highest standards of practice and care.

Community Outreach
Organize and conduct oral health education presentations both on-site and at community events.
Engage with the community to raise awareness of preventative dental care and services available at HFHC.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Licensure
Graduate of an accredited school of Dental Hygiene.
Possess an active and unrestricted license to practice Dental Hygiene in the State of Maine.

Experience

Experience as a Dental Hygienist is preferred, though recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Strong clinical judgment with the ability to make independent decisions in the best interest of patient care.
Compassionate and patient-focused approach to care.
Ability to build effective relationships with patients, colleagues, and external partners.
Commitment to maintaining up-to-date knowledge of dental hygiene practices through professional development.

Work Schedule
Monday to Thursday, with extended hours on Thursdays.
40 hours per week

Compensation
Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
