**Great Educational Opportunity for CHC Staff**
Maine Primary Care Association is offering a 10-week coding certification prep class for the Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) credential Certified E&M Coder (CEMC). The CEMC credential will empower billers and coders to provide in-house claim review, provider coding training and medical record auditing for Primary Care Providers.
Class Design:
- 2 hours a week for ten weeks – during staff time – via Zoom with MPCA’s Susan Whittaker, CPC, CPMA, CPC-I (AAPC certified coding instructor).
- Begins Thursday, April 4, 9:00 – 11:00 AM. Future class days and time are flexible.
- Make-up sessions. The class will be recorded and those missing a class will be asked to listen to the recording and take the quiz for that session.
Total Costs: $1233.49
Base Costs: $964 (Payable to MPCA)**
- $400 – Cost of class
- $145 – Student membership in AAPC
- $20 – practice exam
- $399 – two final exam attempts.
Coding Book Bundle (Purchased through your AAPC student account if needed.):
- $269.49 – 2024 Book Bundle – Needed for the exam. You do not need to purchase these if you already have the following 2024 Coding Manuals:
- Professional Version CPT,
- any version of ICD-10 & HCPC
AAPC will set up student accounts and provide you with logins. Please note that no cancellations, transfers or refunds are allowed.
Health Center Professional Development Commitment:
- Cover Class Costs
- Allow staff to take the class on staff time for more robust attendance.
- Pay Annual Dues for the CEMC credential – $210 (2024). Will renew 2025.
- Support Annual CEUs Requirements – Coders must submit 36 CEUs every two years. There are many opportunities for no-cost CEUs through the local chapters of AAPC.
