CHCNet is pleased to partner with HITEQ to bring you an educational session with Eric Pan MD, MSc, FAMIA, Senior Study Director and Senior Physician Informaticist, Westat, on the Cures Act – Information Blocking.

On October 6, 2022, federal rules prohibiting information blocking went into effect. Not only do these new rules significantly expand what information must be made accessible, but they also mandate how, when, and to whom you are required to supply access to patient EHI. These new rules also clearly spell out exceptions to access, as long as you meet all requirements.

The new Information Blocking rules are part of the Cures Act. Complying with these new requirements really isn’t an option. The federal government has made it clear that failing to do so can result in costly stressful audits and financial penalties of up to $1 million.

In this educational session, Dr. Pan will:

  1. Explain how information blocking is defined by the Cures Act & ONC, as well as exceptions.
  2. Describe key changes for health centers in 2023.
  3. Address provider concerns over sensitive information & patient confidentiality.
  4. Identify one or more common areas of health center operations that should be reviewed for compliance to Cures Act and information blocking.

Target Audience: CEOs, CFOs, COOs, QI staff.
