Maine Primary Care Association (MPCA), in partnership with the Maine Medical Association Center for Quality Improvement (MMA-CQI), presents Motivational Interviewing and its Application to Colorectal Cancer Screening, Thursday, October 27, from 12 – 1 p.m.
Stephen Andrew, LCSW, LADC, CCS, examines the fundamentals of Motivational Interviewing (MI), and discusses the ways to practice MI in relation to colorectal cancer screening and how to expand your MI skills. He will use a “Debrief Conversational Model” approach for this webinar. Please bring your CRC screening conversation challenges with you for discussion and learn how to use MI to address those challenges.
After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Practice Motivational Interviewing in the screening process and help patients verbalize barriers that they may have to the CRC screening process or other cancer screenings
2. Understand direct approaches and skills that can be used within the context of creating an atmosphere of change
3. Develop a mindful observing “eye” to notice or sense resistance
Please plan to join us for this important conversation!
