The Road to Equity: Examining Structural Racism Virtual Forum

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Office of Minority Health (CMS OMH) is hosting a two-day virtual forum: The Road to Equity: Examining Structural Racism in Health Care, to highlight CMS’s renewed focus on health equity, address structural racism in health care, and establish federal agencies’ roles as equity partners. Guest speakers from various federal and partner agencies will share their insight and experience during the forum, focusing on the impact of COVID-19 on health disparities and initiatives to promote equity. Below are agenda items for Day 2 of the forum. We will continue to update this page with additional details as they become available. Attendees can choose which sessions to join but must register to secure a spot. Space is limited; CMS OMH encourages early registration to ensure you can attend. Welcome (1:00 – 1:15 p.m. ET) • This introductory session will include a recap of Day 1 of the forum and introduction videos from senior officials. Session 1: Increasing and Improving Access to Health Care Services and Coverage (1:15 – 2:30 p.m. ET) • Will focus on generating understanding and awareness of the accessibility and culturally and linguistically appropriate, health literate care, and how to identify and eliminate barriers. Session 2: COVID-19 Impacts on Disparities (2:30 – 3:45 p.m. ET) • Will discuss current barriers to the equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine and vaccine safety, with a specific focus on special populations. Session 3: Solutions to Promoting Equity Panel (3:45 – 4:45 p.m. ET) • Moderated question and answer session with CMS OMH Director, Dr. LaShawn McIver and various federal and partner organizations.
