Reports to: Chief Program Officer

Salary Range: $70-80k

The Maine Primary Care Association (MPCA) has an immediate opening for a Director of Development position. The person in this role will support and ensure the sustainability of MPCA and its mission-driven programming to support Maine’s Community Health Centers by building upon MPCA’s proven success in applying for major grants and building the organization’s capacity for fund development. This includes ensuring that the organization submits high quality grant applications, identifying and pursuing other opportunities for funding, meeting revenue targets, and ensuring that Members have access to the most relevant funding opportunities, as well.

Key Activities:

  • Identifies, cultivates, and solicits major grant prospects (government sources, private foundations, etc.), involving CEO, key MPCA staff, community health center members, and partners, as appropriate.
  • Uses existing networks to develop relationships with key current and prospective funders, partners, and sponsors to promote and position the organization for opportunities.
  • Monitors relevant issues and funder interests to identify areas of opportunity and position MPCA and its programs for success. This includes identifying opportunities for Members and assisting them in applying.
  • Supports efforts across MPCA to engage community health center Members in process including ensuring that Membership identifies opportunity as a priority.
  • Develops and updates MPCA’s case for support.
  • Facilitates program development as part of grant seeking, involving relevant staff in order to lay groundwork for successful implementation.
  • Works across MPCA to foster alignment of efforts for optimal outcomes and impact.
  • Stewards funded proposals, including briefing lead staff about targeted outcomes, deliverables, and other requirements; providing support as needed during implementation to meet commitments; working with staff on required reporting; and communicating impact to funders and other stakeholders.
  • Participates in and presents at MPCA Board of Directors and Board Committee meetings as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Superb writing, editing, and project management skills, incl. 7+ years of experience in grant development, program development, and strategic planning, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to create successful grant applications, especially federal programs, and including state programs as well as private foundations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency, knowledge, and application of knowledge in philanthropic and charitable giving methods and processes, program budget development, and program monitoring activities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of health equity and the need for cultural humility as part of program activities.
  • Strong computer skills, including thorough knowledge of the MS 365 suite, Slack, and cloud file servers.
  • Extensive project management experience using tools such as Asana.
  • Ability to lead and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge, skill, and experience working with diverse populations and partner organizations.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of personalities and organizations.
  • Excellent informal and formal communications skills, including listening, speaking, facilitating discussions where diverse opinions exist.
  • Ability to think strategically and deliver technically.
  • Ability to self-direct with a high degree of organization, especially in a predominately remote work environment.
